God Is God…

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.                                                                                                                     Isaiah 55:8-9

I was speaking with a friend the other day, and I ended up talking about my definition of pride. It is a kind of simplistic answer, but one I think we can all relate to. It boils down to this definition: God is God, I’m not, and I’m mad about it!

Yes, it is a sort of homespun saying, but it rings true to me. We recognize that God is God, there is really no escaping that. We also then quickly realize that we are NOT God. We are not the ones in charge, and we do not get whatever we want. Then, if we are honest, we end up seeing that we really do what we want when we want it.

But God is sovereign. We are his creation, and we must submit to the higher authority of God, even when we do not understand it. Truthfully, we are in the hands of a loving and caring God, but we still, at times, just want what we want, and we may get upset if we don’t get it. We may even blame God.

Well, my friends, we are just human. We are not in charge of the Universe, as much as, at times, we want to be. We want what we perceive as justice to be executed, and right away! But God’s ways are higher than our ways, and we learn to trust that his plans are the ones that are best, even when we do not understand them.

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for our pride, and help us to trust your ways, Amen
