Carpe Diem!

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.                                                                                                          Lamentations 3:22-23

A good friend passed away yesterday. My wife and I had known he and his wife for over 40 years as part of a small group we have maintained over the years. He was a wonderful family man, a great example to his children and grandchildren.

Any time we encounter a death, it causes us to reevaluate our own lives. Our own mortality comes again into sharp focus. With that being said, it reminds me that every day is precious. Every day is a gift, never to be repeated. We only have so many days allotted to us, so we must make full use of those precious days.

Each day we can set out to make the day count- to make the world around us just a little better for us having been there.  Every day, we can wake up grateful for that opportunity. So, my friends, in the words of the lyric poet Horace, and in tribute to that other beloved philosopher, Robin Williams, Carpe Diem!

Prayer: Lord, we are grateful for every day you have given us to live, Amen
