We Give It Away…

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God                                                                                                       Micah 6:8

I recently attended a funeral for a man who had lived a long and fruitful life. He was just shy of 97 years old when he passed. He left behind a legacy attested by friends and family whom he had touched. He was a bit of a “Renaissance Man”- a physician, pilot, artist, historian, and devoted father and grandfather. Stories were told about his service to the community, his family and the medical profession.

Hearing these stories made me think about the legacy we leave. It is our duty to leave the world a better place than when we entered it. We work to educate the generations after us, encourage them to care well for their own families and communities, and to help build hope for future generations.

We cannot do all of this by ourselves. We can only influence within the spheres we find ourselves, but it is our duty to give away what we have been given for the benefit of others.

Prayer: Lord, help us to give away what we have been given, Amen
